The Internal Frame Backpack - A Turning Point in the History of Outdoor performance

The internal frame backpack was invented in 1967 by Greg Lowe, who went on to found "Lowe-pro", a firm specializing in bags for exact applications. In 1972, Lowe-pro introduced the first foam padded soft-sided camera bag. Until then, camera cases were made of hard leather that in case, granted security against scratching, but not so much against other types of damage, such as from dropping.

Lowe Alpine is a brand of outdoor tool that was also founded by Greg Lowe. Some of the company's innovations include "Triple-point Ceramic", which is described as waterproof and breathable fabric, and "Advanced Parallux System" or Aps backpacks. Lowe-pro and Lowe Alpine have been responsible for the introduction of plastic buckles, compression straps, stabilizers and other items that are now standard in most modern backpacks.

The Internal Frame Backpack - A Turning Point in the History of Outdoor performance

Lowe is a climber. He invented the internal frame backpack in his own work shed in Colorado. His goal was to overcome the disadvantages of external frame packs, in terms of maneuverability and balance. Early complaints were that the close fitting pack caused more sweating, as compared to external frame designs. With new materials and other improvements, this has been largely overcome.

Who invented the external frame backpack? They have been used for centuries throughout the world. Examples have been found dating back to the copper age. Those that are still made today are typically used only by people going on long expeditions in relatively warm climates.

They are popular with some hunters and with other hikers that do not need the maneuverability that the closer fitting packs provide. The best frames are made from titanium, although aluminum is most common. Kelty, Jansport and Coleman continue to yield them. Those companies sell their version of the internal frame backpack as well.

Other companies that builder high potential backpacks include Berghaus and the North Face. While some companies are said to furnish higher potential than others, it's de facto all about the materials that are used. Most hikers feel that they are all good companies. They back their products and have high potential customer service.

Over the years, we have seen many new innovations in backpacking, camping and hiking equipment. A hobby that was once enjoyed by only a few sportsmen and other individuals is now very popular. One of the reasons for this increased popularity is better, easier to carry equipment.

The precursors to modern-day packs were clumsy, not water-resistant or water proof. They were de facto torn and in case, granted minuscule security for items carried within them. You might say that the invention of the internal frame backpack was a turning point. Things have only gotten better, as time has gone by.

A Good capability Backpack - The Ideal Way To Carry Your Laptop

If you carry a laptop to work, school or college, a backpack can be the most practical way to do this. It will be much more comfortable than the primary laptop bag. There are a huge range of backpacks ready in all shapes and sizes and most are capable of carrying laptops, legitimately many contain specific provision for this.

All this makes selecting the right bag for you rather difficult so below are some things to consider.

The North Face Backpack

  • Will your laptop fit? - this sounds unavoidable but there are not that many backpacks that will fit a 17 inch laptop comfortably. On the other hand if you have a netbook you need to be sure that it will not move about and make the bag uncomfortable to carry.
  • Is there room for all else? - you will want to carry other things and if these will be bulky items, such as books, make sure the bag is big enough. If you do a lot of travelling you might also want space for overnight clothes.
  • Is it comfortable? - if you are going to be walking long distances with the bag you need to ensure it is comfortable. More expensive bags often have extra designs to avoid back pain (and avoid a sweaty back) so don't make price your top criteria.
  • Is there any extra protection for laptops? - some backpacks come with extra laptop compartments specifically designed to protect them. Such a compartment is likely to be incorporated in the invent so that the weight is distributed in the best potential way.
  • Is your laptop protected from the rain? of procedure you will be using your backpack outdoors so you will inevitably get caught in rain or you could spill your drink on the bag or even drop it into a puddle. Few backpacks claim to be totally waterproof but most do claim to be shower proof. This should be adequate for general use.
